Melling Racing was a NASCAR team from 1982 to 2002. The team won the 1988 championship with driver Bill Elliott.

History

Owner Harry Melling first became involved in NASCAR when his company Melling Tool sponsored Benny Parsons in 1979..
The team began in 1982 with driver Bill Elliott. Elliott won the 1988 championship for Melling Racing. Elliott raced for Melling until 1991. The combination finished in the Top 4 in the final points from 1983 to 1988.
Other notable drivers for Melling Racing include Lake Speed from 1995 to 1998, and Jerry Nadeau in 1998 and 1999.
Harry Melling died in 1999, and Mark Melling took over the ownership. Stacy Compton raced for Melling Racing in 2000 and 2001.
In 2001 the team joined forces with Evernham Motorsports and switched to Dodges from the familiar Fords. Melling changed numbers from 9 to 92 to allow Bill Elliott to run 9 with Evernham's new team (the inside joke being that they were 9-too).
The team ended after running two races in 2002: the Daytona 500 and the second race in Michigan much later in the season . In the team's final race, Stacy Compton led three laps, .
